UAE telecom operator Du said it has completed an AED100 million ($27.2 million) upgrade to its IP-based core network to 40 Gbps, and will be able to offer its residential customers faster broadband “in the next few weeks”.
Du will be able to offer residential customers various new services including IPTV and video-on-demand in the coming weeks.
Enterprise customers meanwhile will benefit from improved business services including the ability to prioritise voice, data and video traffic.
Farid Faraidooni, EVP commercial, Du, said the company had already made “good progress” and that all of its points of presence had been upgraded to 40 Gbps capacity, allowing it to soon offer faster broadband speeds.
Du opted for Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1) as the platform on its IP core network, which is designed to allow continuous system operation and greater service flexibility.
