Gulf Air signs two-year London taxis marketing deal

Gulf Air's Golden Falcon logo will soon be prominent on the streets of London, emblazoned on the side of the city's taxi cabs, as part a two-year marketing deal.

Fifty Hackney Carriages will be rolled out over the next two weeks in full Gulf Air livery, to promote the airline's flights from London Heathrow to Bahrain and beyond.

"London has a population of 7.5 million with an additional 26m tourists visiting the capital each year," Gulf Air chief commercial officer Willy Boulter said in comments published by Gulf Daily News on Tuesday.

"The impact of 50 highly visible, Gulf Air-branded taxis out on the streets of London will be significant," he told the paper

"The UK is a key market for Gulf Air. This campaign will reinforce the airline's name and its strong network to the Middle East, Africa, South Asia and the Far East to residents of and visitors to the UK's most densely populated city."

The taxis will operate between London Heathrow and the City of London.

The move comes a few months after hundreds of new London-style cabs started operations on Bahrain's roads in an initiative that will create jobs for 700 Bahrainis.

The Arabian Taxi Company launched its first batch of the new company's cabs in February.

The fleet includes 200 London-style cabs and 114 other models suitable for larger groups and families.

The new taxi service is the result of a joint initiative between Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and the Economic Development Board (EDB).
