Al Sabbagh claims Al Othaim needed a highly-available platform to implement Oracle EBS and Retail applications.

Saudi Arabia’s Al Othaim Markets has chosen Sun Microsystems infrastructure to run its Oracle applications.

Al Othaim Markets is a supermarket and grocery store chain with 77 branches throughout Saudi Arabia. The 53-year old company has chosen Sun Microsystems’ infrastructure to provide the grunt for its suite of Oracle applications.

“Serviceability features combined with Sun clustering solution provided the required high availability for Retail and EBS environment. There was the need for multiple Operating systems, RISC and CISC architecture for running various Retail applications. With our large scale operations in the kingdom, it was important we had the best IT infrastructure to meet our growth, and Sun provided us with that,” said Aadham Junaidallah, CIO, Al-Othaim Markets Co.

Sun’s X4250 and T5220 servers will run the foodstuff-seller’s Oracle E-Business Suite application, while Sun SPAR M400 servers will run the retail databases. According to a statement released by Sun, these servers will provide Al-Othaim with high performance per watt and per rack unit.

“Oracle’s Retail solution requirements are very stringent, it requires power and stability to run efficiently; Sun’s solutions have the capability of supporting such demanding applications. Al Othaim needed a powerful and highly available platform to implement the Oracle EBS and Retail application which could scale with its business plans while having low space and power footprint.” said Mazen Al Sabbagh, Partner Sales Manager, Central KSA, Sun Microsystems.

The implementation was carried out by WiPro Arabia – one of Sun’s partners in the Kingdom – with the IT service providers responsible for the Oracle E-Business Suite, Retail and hardware installation.
