Older ministers and leaders in local and federal government must join forces with the younger generation, and help pave the way for them to take up prominent positions, the Ruler of Dubai said on Tuesday.

Sheikh Mohammed, prime minister and vice-president of the UAE, called on to the country’s top leaders to listen to the concerns and ideas of their junior employees, and to groom them for future leadership.

Emiratis of all ages had to work as a team for the future development of the country, he added during a meeting with second and third generation nationals in positions of leadership at the Zabeel Palace, Dubai, according to the WAM news agency.

"We are meeting here today not to review achievements and gains made in favour of the country, and its citizens, in areas as diverse as education, health, housing, youth, sports and others, but to exchange views and listen to your positive opinions and proposals,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“....to join forces as one team in addressing development challenges, and overcome them for the best interests of the country and its citizens, and for raising the country's profile regionally and internationally,” he added.

Sheikh Mohammed went on to urge the younger generation to be ambitious in their goals and to learn from all disciplines, including science and literature.

"Without ambition, no one can scale up to the first ranks,” he said, adding that transparency in the actions of ministers was an important element to successful leadership.

"Transparency is required and the federal government is striving to foster and bolster it as a civilisational culture in ministries and bodies delivering services to the citizens,” Sheikh Mohammed concluded.
