Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 will be on sale from 22nd October.
According to a report on the Dow Jones newswire, Bill Veghte, senior vice president for Microsoft's Windows business said in an interview: “We feel confident that we will deliver Windows 7 with our partners on Oct. 22.”
Veghte also confirmed that an October release would mean that development would need to have been completed by the middle or end of July.
It had been rumoured that the new version of Windows would ship by 23rd October this year, after an Acer official said that it would be shipping a Windows 7 PC by that date.
The launch date, which will coincide with the last day of GITEX Technology Week, would mean that Microsoft would have Windows 7 PCs available in time for the end of year buying rush, but would miss the ‘back-to-school’ buying period.
No information was available at present on Middle East launch for the OS, but most major software launches by Microsoft in recent years have seen simultaneous launches in the region of both English and Arabic versions.
