JOB MOTIVATION: The fear of losing their jobs is encouraging one in five Middle East staff to work harder, according to a new survey.

One in five Middle East professionals are working “much harder” due to fears over job security, according to a new survey.

More than half the region's working professionals, 52 percent, have changed their behaviour or attitude at work as a result of the economic crisis, a study by job site Bayt.com found

Fears over losing their jobs have prompted 20 percent of employees to put “much more effort” into their work, while 32 percent said they are now working harder due to increased responsibilities.

Another 27 percent of working professionals said that their workload was unchanged after the global financial crisis hit the region.

By contrast, 16 percent said the current economic situation has made them feel “de-motivated” to work and that as a result, they were inclined to work less

A whopping 80 percent of respondents felt that employers were taking advantage of the current economic crisis to cut spending on employees.

A total of 13,639 people from across the Middle East were polled in the Bayt.com survey between April 28 and May 31 this year.
