Qatar schools seek permission to raise fees

Qatar education bosses are set to decide soon on requests for an increase in fees from private schools in the Gulf state.

Several private schools in Qatar have sought permission to raise their fees from the next academic session which begins in September, but the Ministry of Education is yet to make a decision.

“We have received requests from some private schools seeking permission to raise their fees. However, we have not so far granted permission to any of these schools,” Hamad Ali Al Sulaiti, director of the Private Education Department said in comments published by The Peninsula on Monday.

All the private and community schools are required to obtain prior permission from the Department before imposing any hike in their fees.

He told the paper that a special committee at the ministry will decide on the requests without indicating whether they would be looked upon favourably.

Asked if there were plans to impose a maximum ceiling on fee hike, Al Sulaiti said this issue would be decided by the committee.
