Google is by far the most popular search engine among Internet users in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, according to analyst company Arab Advisors.

New research from Arab Advisors found that 97.5% of all Internet users use Google, when asked to list all the search engines they use. Some 43.7% said they used Yahoo!, but regional search engines only registered an average of 5%, the company reports.

The email survey of 655 residents of the two countries was conducted in March 2009, with verification and quality control checks carried out to give a confidence level of 99% with a margin of error of less than 6%.

From the results of cross tabulating by country, 79.2% of respondents residing in Saudi Arabia were members in a forum, while in comparison, only 37.3% of respondents residing in the UAE were members in a forum," said Noura Abdulhadi, Arab Advisors Senior Research Analyst.

The survey report entitled, A Survey of Internet Use and Online Advertising Consumption and Effectiveness in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, also looked other online habits such as email and forum usage, online shopping and awareness of online marketing.
