Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Customs and Ports Department, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, on Monday denied media reports he has acquired 60 percent of an unnamed leading Premier League football club.

News agency WAM reported on Sunday that Sheikh Ahmed, who is also chairman of the Emirates Cultural and Sports Club, had not only had taken a 60 percent stake in the unnamed club but also would be named as honorary chairman.

The report added that further details about the deal were to be announced at a press conference in the next few days.

News of the report led to speculation in some quarters that Sheikh Ahmed was teaming up with ex-Hydra Properties boss, Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, who had announced on May 27 that he was negotiating to buy Portsmouth F.C.
