Oman signs aviation deals worth $1.5bn

Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has signed more than $1.5bn of deals for the development of its aviation infrastructure.

The venture consists of 13 agreements, including a $1.2bn deal with the Consolidated Contractors Company of Oman and TAV joint venture to undertake civil works at Muscat International Airport, according to the Oman News Agency (ONA).

Other projects include a $97.6m contract with Strabag Oman Company for the construction of the Sohar Airport in Al Batinah and a $60.8m contract with Desert Line Projects Company to build the Al Duqm Airport in Al Wusta.

ONA quoted Abdul Ragim bin Salim Al Harami, director-general of Metereology and Air Navigation at the ministry, who said: “The agreement relates to development of infrastructure at Muscat Airport, including the construction of a main road for the airport, a new tarmac at the internal corridors, as well as the roads which connect all the airport entrances, roundabouts and the main road which connects Sultan Qaboos Road to the main road.”

According to Bin Salim Al Harami, all projects are to be completed by the end of 2012, with operations commencing at the beginning of 2013.
