Oman invests $220m into transport infrastructure

Dr Khamis bin Mubark al Alawi, Oman’s Transport and Communications Minister, signed 17 new agreements on Saturday, worth $220.3m, in a bid to develop the country’s transport infrastructure.

The principal deal, valued at $59.6m, is for the construction of a 20 km long road between Arjout and Sarfait in the Dhofar governorate, to be built by the Desert Line Projects Company, reported the Oman News Agency (ONA).

The other major project being pursued is a $59.3 dual carriageway, which will stretch 17km from the Al Zaroub roundabout to The Al Buraimi hospital roundabout.

The contract is with D Sterling Patco and includes the construction of a main ring flyover, two ring bridges, four tunnels, a service road and lighting works.

Other significant agreements relate to the construction of a 27km long road between Hajaf, Jahnir and Asir, the consultancy and design of the 180 km long Southern Al Batinah Express Road, and the construction of an 18.6 km Al Turath district road in Ghubrat Nizwa.

In addition, a number of improvements will be made to existing road networks and various internal roads will be constructed within the region.
