New eco-friendly firm aims to cut UAE sea pollution

An ecological recycling company is set to help reduce the UAE’s sea pollution once it launches in Dubai, a senior director has claimed.

The First Sea Mining Factory (FSM) has signed a land lease agreement, which will see it establishing a base at science and technology hub TechnoPark in Dubai.

It plans to use recycling technology, created by sea mining product developer IES Germany, to eliminate pollution caused by brine discharges from seawater desalination plants.

Dr Martin Padisak, chairman and CEO of IES Germany, said that the new operation was the first of its kind in Dubai, adding it would “maintain the balance of the marine environment”.

First Sea Mining Factory will collaborate with TechnoPark, the Ministry of Environment and Water, government decision makers and water authorities responsible for recycling industrial waste brine.

TechnoPark is a business park built by Economic Zones World, which develops logistics, technology and industrial hubs.

"Building up the country's desalination capabilities and water conservation efforts in is a huge priority for TechnoPark. This includes fostering R&D and innovation in eco-friendly and energy efficient technology,” said EZW chief commercial officer Ibrahim Mohamed Al Janahi.

“We are very pleased to welcome First Sea Mining to TechnoPark. The company's pioneering technology [and] driven work is the kind of innovation needed in this country to help us develop as a sustainable society."

No timescale was given for when the new business will be operational.
