The CEO of UK travel giant National Express is joining a new company in the UAE which has been charged with improving rail links across the company, it emerged on Wednesday.
A statement on the National Express website announced that Richard Bowker CBE, group chief executive, has advised the Board of his intention to leave the Group.
He will depart at the end of August to take up a position as chief executive designate of Union Railway.
The UAE government-owned company was created in March after the Ministerial Council for Services passed a federal bill.
Its main mission is "to underpin the national economy through the transportation of passengers and goods, increasing inter-emirate trade exchange and easing traffic congestion", according to reports in March.
The company will own, lease, sell, buy and operate trains and invest in transportation of passengers and goods and other related activities.
