Officials closed down 27 food stores in the Saudi Arabian city of Taif for failing to follow proper health and safety regulations.
Inspectors carried out a series of random checks on a number of retailers in different parts of the city as part of an on going
Muhammad Al Mukhrij, Taif Municipality chairman, told Arab News officers had also issued warnings to a number of other shop owners about complying with health and safety standards.
“We’ll impose the maximum punishment on violators. We won’t show any leniency toward anyone who tampers with the health of citizens and residents,” he said.
He told the daily paper that the municipality will conduct further inspections throughout the summer at shopping centers, food stores, shops, petrol stations and trade facilities.
