Abu Dhabi TV has secured the right to telecast live matches of the English Premier League to football fans in the Middle East and North Africa from August 2010 and for three consecutive league seasons, newswire WAM reported on Friday.

"This is a critical moment for Abu Dhabi and for our media company," said Edward Borgerding, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Media Company. "We have established a partnership with the most thrilling championships in the world. We aim at sustaining our partnership with the English Premier League for many years by telecasting the league matches to the Arab World, to Arab families in the Middle East and North Africa," he added.

Borgerding said the agreement will boost his outfit's development strategy of providing the best leisure, sports and news services to the Arab public, the newswire added.

Good News But....

This is great news for football fans here! However i hope and trust that Abu Dhabi TV provides at least the same quality of coverage as Showtime i.e:

Broadcast of ALL games live.
Choice of Arabic or English commentary, both during the game and the presenters of the show.

I hope that their broadcast does not take coverage of the EPL back to the gloomy ART coverage days.

Please also do not bring the likes of Carlton Palmer and that other guy Joe to broadcast as they do not have any presentation skills, let alone football knowledge.
A good Accomplishment

This news is truly worthy of recognition. I never would have thought of them to get the rights but I guess when English clubs are owned by the countrymen it was bound to happen.
The only clause now in this issue is that they upgrade their quality of channels are service and atleast if not HD they should increase their channel quality[clarity] and make it compulsary for language choice. Majority of people here watch a game in arabic because the dont have a choice. Examples are ART 1-9 and al jazeera. Its only sometimes that they do.
This is the age of LCD - LEDS not CRT or for the ill informed the old televisions.
All in all great step towards the right direction.
Fantastic News !!!
