NEW APPOINTMENT: Jason Bitter has been appointed CEO of Air Arabia Maroc.

Air Arabia, Sharjah’s low-cost airline, confirmed on Saturday the appointment of Jason Bitter as CEO for its Moroccan operation.

The Casablanca-based airline, Air Arabia Maroc, was launched on May 6 as a spin off from its parent company to provide services between the UAE and Morocco.

Bitter will be responsible for overseeing the company, having worked in the industry for more than 15 years. He was previously chief executive of European budget carrier SkyEurope Airlines and chief operating officer for Indian low-cost operator SpiceJet.

“While the worldwide aviation sector currently faces unprecedented challenges, as a consequence of the global financial crisis, the appeal of value-for-money low-cost carriers has never been greater,” Bitter said.

He added Air Arabia Maroc would strive to offer cheap and safe services to air travellers.

Air Arabia Maroc operates from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, flying to eight European destinations, including Barcelona, Paris, England and Milan.

Adel Ali, CEO of Air Arabia in Sharjah, said Bitter’s experience in the low-cost airline sector made him the ideal candidate for the role.

“With this new appointment, Air Arabia (Maroc) will maximise the growth opportunities that exist for the carrier in the dynamic North African and European markets,” he added.
