British Airways intends to increase capacity on its Jeddah service for the duration of it’s winter schedule.

Following its re-entry into the Saudi Arabia market on June 1, the UK carrier will increase the number of seats on the service by 50 percent to meet demand.

“The uptake we have experienced during our first month of operations on both the Riyadh and Jeddah route has been extremely positive and our confidence in the kingdom is demonstrated through our increased in capacity on our Jeddah service,” said Paolo De Renzis, British Airways' area commercial manager Middle East.

From October 31 until March 29 the airline will operate a Boeing 777 plane on the five weekly Jeddah flights, the firm said in a statement on Monday.

Currently the airline operates its five weekly Jeddah flights with a Boeing 767, while a Boeing 777 operates the Riyadh service.

In 2005, BA dropped its Saudi services as rising oil prices made the route a commercial drain.

It had earlier suspended flights to the Kingdom for security reasons during uncertain times following 9/11.

But an increase in Middle East residents travelling to Europe prompted BA to reintroduce the flights.
