Iran's new atomic chief Ali Akbar Salehi said on Saturday that the West should close the Islamic republic's nuclear file and cease its hostility towards Tehran.
"Legal and technical discussions about Iran's nuclear case have finished... and there is no room left to keep this case open," Salehi said in his first remarks since being appointed Friday to head Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation.
At the heart of Iran's nuclear controversy lies its defiant insistence on continuing to enrich uranium. Highly enriched uranium can be used to make atomic weapons while low enriched uranium is used in nuclear power plants.
The West fears that Iran has a covert plan to use the technology to make nuclear weapons but Tehran insists the technology will be used only for peaceful purposes.
"We hope that more efforts be made (by the West) in order to obtain mutual confidence instead of the past six year's hostile era and this case... will be closed as soon as possible," Salehi said.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Friday announced the appointment of Salehi, Iran's former envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, replacing the former chief of 12 years, Gholam Reza Aghazadeh.
Salehi is known as an open minded administrator and he was the one who signed the protocol with the IAEA in December 2003 which gave the UN agency a freer hand in inspecting Iran's nuclear sites.
Ahmadinejad's present government stopped applying that protocol, linked to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, in February 2006 shortly after Iran's nuclear programme was referred to the UN Security Council.
Aghazadeh has given no reason for his resignation but he has long been a friend of Mir Hossein Mousavi, the main opposition leader who is bitterly disputing Ahmadinejad's re-election and has demanded a re-run of the presidential vote.

So, Iran is able to enrich Uranium for weapon grade, but the question would be, is Iran enriching power plant Uranium Grade? Russia is responsible for Iran's new found hobby, in attempt to shake the bee's hive for #1 power nation.
What is Russia's beef with the US?
Why would anyone run his/her country to ruins for a freaking mineral? I doubt Iran is willing just to enrich Uranium to sell it to the highest bidder for peaceful purposes. Or perhaps we should consider how much yield per annum Iran is digging up for power generation.
It would be naive of us to think that Iran wants to be the power generating plant for neighboring countries. Russia now distributes gas in participation with other countries instead of creating a power plant capable of powering up their life's necessities. It is well within their capacity to do so and yet they fail to push it forward.
We as people are left in a serene state of mind, mindless of what is happening across borders. We put our trust in few folks to run our business and we end up with cross border fist fight.
Ignorance is what put men in power, ignorance is what people are guided by to follow.
Iran is self sufficient not to need Any Form Of Uranium and with talks they could have found middle grounds for themselves to enrich enough Uranium for their needs.
If we are not united against a common enemy then we are fighting amongst ourselves. It is hopeless. When will it ever end?

A nuclear technology on a very irresponsible, unstable, and very arrogant state… I tell you, a sentient being should only fear God and not another sentient being. India and Pakistan shares one history and one brink step from annihilating each other; like a spoiled brat, North Korea passions threat and reprisal if not given what it wants. Instead of using its funds to feed its hungry people, it squanders everything to play an underachiever dictator role. Libya ruled its people in fear and oppression. There was only one civilize country in history to ever use such weapon of destruction against civilian to end a great war, and Iran with its arrogant leader undoubtedly would want to achieve one to start another. Arrogant? Yes. Ahmadinejad has already threatened to wipe out one race. Using powerful words like “God’s will” to fuel his hatred. No nuclear tech involve, if God wants to destroy a race or the world, he doesn’t need one or tens of thousands Ahmadinejad.
