Emirates Airline on Tuesday denied recent reports claiming the airline had increased fares for services to and from Australia.

Speaking to Arabian Business, the Dubai-based carrier said that from July 23 only outbound tickets booked in Australia would carry a fare increase.

The comments follow weekend reports in Australia that Emirates raised ticket costs for flights to and from Australia by seven percent across all cabins.

Emirates declined to confirm how much fares will rise by.

When asked how passengers in Australia would react to the fare increase, an Emirates spokesperson said: “Like every commercially-oriented business, Emirates regularly reviews its fares to reflect market dynamics, including demand and rising operating costs.

“For our customers price is only one of the purchase decision drivers - travellers also consider other factors such as brand reputation, product and service quality, flight timings and connections.

“We remain committed to providing our customers with excellent service and a strong value-for-money proposition."

Australian newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald claimed the price hike was Emirates’ attempt to stem losses following months of heavy discounts. A source reportedly told the paper that raising fares during an economic downturn was risky.

The airline operates 63 weekly flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane in Australia.
