Panduit updates infrastructure management solutions

Panduit has released a new version of its Physical Infrastructure Manager (PIM) software, part of the PanView iQ (PViQ) physical layer infrastructure solutions, which will enable greater visibility and management of data centre and network infrastructure.

The new PViQ allows for faster response for configuration changes, and quicker assimilation of usage and connectivity data, for more efficient management of data centres and networks.

The web-based software, which is version 1.2 of PViQ, maps physical layer and network resources to provide automated documentation to improve asset management and provide a single view of the network. PViQ scanners clip into existing patch panels, meaning that the solution does not take up additional rack space.

The PViQ system, which is designed and manufactured in the US, and wholly-owned by Panduit, is a key component in the company’s Unified Physical Infrastructure (UPI) vision to align, converge and optimize power, control, communication, computing and security systems that are critical to network performance.

David Palmer Stevens, EMEA Systems Integrator Manager, Panduit commented: “PViQ helps improve data centre management efficiency by facilitating steps 1-3 in ITIL v3 (Information Technology Infrastructure Library – best practice framework for IT service management). Steps 1-3 consist of planning, implementation and automatic documentation of connectivity moves, adds, or changes, new server or service deployments.

“The system reduces the mean time to repair for the majority of the communications problems that are attributed to the physical layer. ITIL compliance is further supported, as the PViQ system allows jobs to be run in parallel for reduced deployment time and labour cost savings. This creates costs savings, making management of the whole data centre more efficient, and helps to maintain uptime – a real advantage to in house operations and outsourced service providers,” he added.

The new system will replace Panduit’s existing PanView infrastructure management solution, although Panduit will continue to support PanView.
