Qtel launched on Saturday a roaming offer for people taking a vacation this summer, with more affordable rates for its customers.

With thousands flying off for rest and relaxation this summer, Qtel has created a ‘summer roaming zone’ that provides cheaper rates in popular destinations like the Maldives, Thailand, Austria, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, Egypt, Tunisia, a media release said.

In many cases, the rates on offer with Qtel phones will be less than the cost of calling home from a national line in those countries, it said.

The offer sees local call prices charged at QR1.99 and calls home to Qatar cut to QR4.99 per minute, offering some of the most affordable roaming rates in the region, the release said. This represents up to a 60 percent saving for customers spending their vacation in these countries and means that customers can call home from Europe for less than EUR1.00 per minute, or call locally for less than EUR0.50 per minute, the firm informed.

Customers will also be sent dedicated SMS telling them about Qtel’s preferred partner and the tariffs on offer when they land in their holiday destination, to provide holiday-makers with peace of mind about the cost of calling home.

“Qtel wants people to relax and enjoy their summer holidays, so we’ve made sure they know they’re getting great rates when they use their mobile phone while travelling abroad. This special summer promotion provides the best roaming rates available in Qatar, and ensures that people can use their Qtel phone with confidence around the world,” said Adel Al Mutawa, executive director, group communications, Qtel.

Qtel has also ensured that calls home to Qatar were also included in the offer, to ensure that people felt comfortable calling home during the holidays.

“We know that many people travel abroad during the hot summer months of July and August, so we wanted to offer a truly beneficial promotion that cuts their costs during their holidays,” concluded Al Mutawa.

Qatar Telecom (Qtel) is the telecommunications service provider licensed by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) to provide both fixed and mobile telecommunications services in the state of Qatar. It has a presence in 17 countries.
