Abu Dhabi has been experiencing brisk tourism season this summer due to great efforts exerted by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, Etihad Airlines, Emirates Palace, Hotels and resorts, according to a report.
The family festivals such as summer in Abu Dhabi, Liwa Dates Festival 2009, promotional tourism offers and tours to palm oases, Abu Dhabi Islands, forts and sanctuaries also provided unprecedented atmosphere for the families and tourists, UAE’s newswire WAM reported.
Full occupation of hotels and resorts in Abu Dhabi was no longer confined to winter and spring but continued throughout the year, it added.
Tourism sector officials in Abu Dhabi, said that the emirate of Abu Dhabi has become an important tourism hub in the Gulf and Middle East due to its rich tourism varieties and capability to provide unprecedented entertainment, culture, artistic, musical, fairs and other competitive services in the region.
Many GCC families converged in Abu Dhabi to spend summer and benefit from reduced prices of hotel rooms - a move that raised the hotels occupation to over 75 per cent for the first time, WAM said.
The reduction of the room prices at hotels by 40 per cent and deferring of the academic year in the UAE to start after Eidul Fitr on Sept 23, have considerably contributed in reviving the tourism season, according to the newswire.
Emirates Palace offers special promotions in line with its summer programmes to its customers and residents of Abu Dhabi and special offers to GCC residents to stay at Emirates Palace until the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Janet Abrahams, Director of sales, Marketing and Public Relations, Emirates Palace, told WAM that the special offer provides an opportunity to those interested to enjoy summer at Emirates Palace.

On the expat grapevine, AD occupancy rates at 2 of the big name hotels are currently 15%. May as well call it as it really is. The place is empty right now, few cars on the road, schools closed, everyone overseas. Dubai is far far worse (or better).
