Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence and Aviation has ordered three additional A330 tanker aircraft for use in air-to-air refuelling missions, Airbus’ parent company European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS) has revealed.
The Royal Saudi Air Force inked a deal for three aircraft in 2008, so the new order brings the total to six. Delivery of the first A330 aircraft is scheduled for 2011, EADS said in a statement.
Financial terms of the contract, which also includes an in-service support package, were not disclosed.
The A330 tanker, which is used in air-to-air refuelling missions, competes directly with a Boeing aerial tanker based on its 767 aircraft.
