Qatar Airways expansion plans could be delayed if Boeing’s scheduled delivery of its 787 Dreamliners is delayed, according to sources.
The Qatar-based national carrier has 60 Boeing 787s on order, which were originally planned for delivery between mid 2010 and 2014, according to the Gulf Times.
“If Boeing does not deliver in time, carriers with expansion plans will have to seek other alternatives. In particular, Qatar Airways plans to double its existing fleet by 2013 and add many routes across the globe. It is important for the airline that the manufacturers maintain their delivery schedule,” the source told the newspaper.
The Chicago-based manufacturer has delayed delivery of the aircraft following problems with production.
Qatar Airways planned to the 787 in regional and medium haul routes, an area the carrier had lined up for massive expansion.
