US home furnishing brand Pottery Barn is to open four stores in Dubai and Kuwait next year after signing an agreement with regional retail giant MH Alshaya.
The store is perhaps best known outside North America for its appearance in an episode of US sitcom Friends, where Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel tries to keep her roommate Phoebe from finding out that she bought a table from the chain.
The episode is frequently cited as an example of successful product placement.
The GCC stores would be parent company Williams-Sonoma’s first outlets outside the US and Canada.
"Our customers are looking for unique high quality home furnishings, and Williams-Sonoma’s family of brands exemplifies the innovative style, quality, and service they expect,” said MH Alshaya chairman Mohammed Alshaya.
