Kuwait’s Health Ministry on Sunday confirmed a further 54 cases of swine flu, taking the total to 265.

''As their health conditions are not serious, the new cases have been allowed to receive the necessary medication at home,'' the ministry's spokesman Yussef al-Nesif told KUNA.

Most cases have been discharged from hospital following full recovery.

Kuwait's swine flu patients are mostly aged 16-35, the spokesman said, adding that the ministry was taking all required measures to contain the disease in the country.

Meanwhile, the ministry stressed that swine flu vaccinations set to be made available to the general public will comply with international standards.

The comment was made by the ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Vaccines and Medical Equipment Omar Al-Sayyed Omar.

In a statement he confirmed that capsules for adults (Tamiflu) and syrup for children, after agreement with internationally certified companies and conforming to international standards, will be made available to the general public.

If needed, further doses will be requested, the minister said.

The ministry has a vaccine reserve of up to 10 million capsules; enough to provide treatment for a million people.
