A total of 324 motorists were stripped of their driving licences for exceeding the maximum number of points in Abu Dhabi over the past six months.
Figures from Abu Dhabi police’s Department of Traffic and Patrols showed that of those drivers 130 were foreign expatriates, 102 were UAE nationals, and 77 were Arab nationals.
Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, director of the department, told the news agency WAM that when the number of licence points reached 24 it was confiscated.
He said the first time this happens the licence is withheld and a motorist suspended from driving for three months. The second time the time is six months.
Al Shamsi said if a motorist exceeds the maximum licence points more than twice they will not be given their licence back unless they have re-trained at an accredited driving school.

The statistics can be further strengthened by identifying the total number of license holders for each of the categories (Expat, Nationals and arab nationals) and then the above statistics applied to identify the best and worst sets with regard to attitude to compliance to traffic laws in the land.....Those in the best category publicly felicitated and those with the worst category subjected to more rigorous controls and training to improve attitude to compliance.........
