Mobile application provider Info2cell.com and Chinese-based mobile security specialists NetQin have formally entered into a partnership that aims to protect cellphones in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from malware, viruses and other security threats.
In June, the two firms collaborated in the detection of the Transmitter.C malware that redirected users to an unsecured web portal and then spread by randomly sending text messages to numbers from the contact list of an infected device. On its website, NetQin stated that it provided a solution for the Kingdom in just six hours and warned that the malware ‘would break out all over the world’.
“As soon as the virus was detected, NetQin immediately executed a two-step process that involved informing our subscribers of the danger of this virus and explaining to them the process of deleting the malicious program from their mobile phone system. The detection of the Transmitter.C malware is a strong proof of the growing risk of subscribers being exposed to security threats," said Info2cell.com founder and CEO Bashar Al Dahabra in a company statement.
NetQin believes that more mobile malware now use social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace as bait. More than 20 million smartphones have been secured and protected by the company’s solutions till date.
Both Info2cell.com and NetQin will now collaborate to deliver other solutions, including an Arabic version of NetQin's Mobile Antivirus and Mobile Communication Master, to the Middle East market.
