Bahrain Air confirmed on Tuesday that it is to start flying to Baghdad and Najaf - the seven flights a week comprising two to the Iraqi capital and five to Najaf. The new services commence on August 28.
In addition to the Iraq flights the carrier also confirmed it has added Saudi capital Riyadh to its network, bringing the total number of destinations to 19. Flights to Riyadh are due to start on September 28.
Last week Gulf Air announced it will start flying to Baghdad from September 1.
In a statement Gulf Air CEO Samer Majali said: "The inclusion of Iraq to our regional network makes absolute sense geographically and economically.
''There is demand for a direct service from Bahrain and we have ensured that our Iraq service will complement our feeder services from Europe and in particular London, which will enable us to capture intercontinental traffic with passengers having less than two hour connections via our Bahrain hub.
Gulf Air will operate a service five days a week to Baghdad. The carrier plans to add Najaf and Irbil to its network by the end of September.
