Amr Hayaly (left) and Duke Park are aiming to expand Samsung’s share of the TV market in Egypt.

Samsung is bidding to expand its LED TV and LCD TV business in Egypt after giving an update on its consumer electronics strategy for the North African country.

The vendor recently hosted a roundtable discussion where key executives from the company’s local office detailed its sales plans and outlined some of the key trends impacting the direction of the TV monitor market.

Amr Hayaly, consumer electronics division manager at Samsung Egypt — whose area of focus encompasses TVs, home appliances and audio systems — insists the vendor is pursuing a two-pronged strategy when it comes to the display business.

“For the upcoming year, the strategy for the TVs is divided into two components: expanding the LED TV within its specific segment, and solidifying the LCD TV’s position by answering customer’s demands and stylish designs,” he revealed.

One of the product lines that the vendor looks set to push hard in the market is its latest LED TVs, which boast an ultra-slim design and integrated ‘Media@2.0’ technology. Samsung claims that since introducing its large-screen LED flat panel TV to the market, its share of the business has increased from 12% to 83% in the year to May 2009.

Duke Park, general manager of the Samsung Cairo office, claims the company is determined to expand its business in Egypt. “Samsung was the first to bring LED technology to the Egyptian market and we look forward to continuing the trend as market leaders in technology and innovation,” he said.
