Advertising rates on free-to-air (FRA) satellite channels in the Arab world have reached record highs this year – but are low by global standards, new research has shown.
A 30 second advertisement during peak time on a FRA satellite channel costs around $3,362, analysis by Jordan-based research company Arab Advisors Group has found.
Prices are still low compared to global rates due to the lack of ways to calculate viewer numbers that diminishes the bargaining power of the popular stations in the Arab world, the report concluded.
Issa Goussous, Arab Advisors senior research analyst, said in a statement on Thursday: "In 2007, the rates of major channels appear to have stabilised: slightly above those of 2005 and below those of 2004.
"In 2009, the peak average advertising rates of major free-to-air satellite channels were 25 percent higher than that of 2007."
FRA channels are free for viewers to watch.
