Oracle get DoJ approval for Sun Microsystems deal

Oracle has announced that it has received approval from the US Department of Justice for its take over of Sun Microsystems.

Oracle’s $7.4 billion bid for Sun was accepted by the board in April, and by shareholders in July.

The deal gives Oracle control of Sun’s hardware and software portfolio, plus ownership of Java. Oracle also gains the MySQL open source database.

The deal still requires clearance from the European Commission before it can be finalized.
