Pupils at Abu Dhabi schools will be banned from class for a week if they have returned from holiday abroad on the eve of the new term, in a bid to prevent the spread of swine flu.

Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, director general of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), told Gulf News about the new scheme which applies to all schools in the UAE capital.

"It is part of a policy to prevent swine flu in schools. No child will be allowed to attend school just after coming back from abroad," he told the paper.

Pupils who get back from a holiday abroad just before schools reopen will have to stay at home for a week from the date of their return.

Al Khaili told the paper that school managers are responsible for implementing the week ban.

"We will send the official communiqué soon to the schools and other authorities in this regard," Al Khaili said.

The decision was welcomed the National Supervisory Committee for Combating Swine Flu.

I hope the authorities will implement this to all schools in UAE.

For parents, I hope they should be sensible enough to check on their kids' condition before sending them back to school.
kuwait should also adopt this approach.
