David Allinson believes Zimbra’s open source solutions will be attractive to Middle East end-users.

Red Hat’s Middle East distributor Opennet has expanded its product portfolio by agreeing to market Zimbra’s enterprise offering in the region.

Zimbra, which is a Yahoo! company, specialises in open source server software for e-mail and collaboration and claims its software provides a set of end-user and administrator benefits that make it a flexible solution for deployments of all sizes.

Opennet has been a distributor for Red Hat in the Middle East and Africa region for nine years, but the agreement with Zimbra marks the first time it has diversified into distributing other open source solutions.

“As open source becomes a more viable option for businesses across the region, solutions like Zimbra provide the communication capabilities today’s executives demand,” insisted David Allinson, general manager at Opennet. “The collaboration suite offered by Zimbra brings together calendar, e-mail, VoIP, mobility and other tools, combining them in an online platform.”

Zimbra provides an AJAX web-based interface that can be accessed from anywhere via a web browser. It also integrates with a variety of desktop clients, including Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail.

Andy Pflaum, VP for channel sales at Zimbra, claims Opennet is an important addition to the company’s distribution network. “Demand for Zimbra’s next-generation email and collaboration is skyrocketing and distributors like Opennet are helping to scale our channel with top-notch support and services,” he stated.
