More than 10,000 movie goers visited Reel Cinemas, the new megaplex at Dubai Mall, in its first week of opening, the firm said on Wednesday.
Ten screens started operations on August 14, with a further 12 coming on line later in 2009, bringing the total seating capacity up to 2,800.
“The impressive visitor turn-out in the first week of operation is very promising,” said Arif Amiri, CEO, Emaar Retail.
“Reel Cinemas will raise the bar on cinema entertainment in Dubai and we look forward to continually entertaining mall visitors with our movie screenings.”
Films that were shown during the first week were Funny People, G.I. Joe and My Sister’s Keeper.
Amiri said he expected footfall to the cinema to increase as word of its opening spreads.
The cinema is located in the entertainment precinct on level two of the mall.

Dude, this ain't Oman.. this is Dubai, the less worse among the worst. They hav 2-8 shows depending on the length of the movie. This is during Ramadan.

With Ramadan having started from the 22nd of August, only one evening show can happen after the prayers/ breaking of fast. It is really impressive if they have managed to get 10,000 people through the doors between the 14th & 22nd of August....

CLearly novelty factor as these are new cinemas - soon unless they are any different than GRand Cinemas , people will choose to go to cinemas near to them geographically.
