Walid Yehia, regional pre-sales manager at EMC, upholds the vendor’s place in the Middle East virtual storage market, saying its new DLm system will cement its position.

EMC claims that it has doubled the capacity and throughput of its Disk Library for Mainframe (DLm) system. The latest version of the EMC DLm systems is intended to provide IBM zSeries mainframe environments with a tape replacement solution that the vendor says is both high performance and enables users to process and retrieve information at disk speed.

Walid Yehia, pre-sales manager for the Middle East, North West Africa and Turkey region at EMC, explains that mainframe environments are increasing more demanding and that EMC has carved itself a strong reputation in the field with some of that largest mainframe environments in the world.

“When it comes to protection, EMC has led the mainframe backup and recovery market since we introduced the industry’s first tapeless virtual tape library for IBM zSeries mainframes in 2008,” lauded Yehia.

“Mainframe customers consistently push the envelope and we continue to innovate by helping them scale out their tape environments while providing greater management, speed and recovery of their systems,” he added.

The new DLm system utilises virtual tape engines and EMC Celerra unified storage systems and end-users can benefit from up to 1.2petrabytes of usable capacity in six virtual tape engines and in only 13 cabinets. Plus, the new system offers 1.2 gigabyte per second throughput.

EMC has further simplified matters for the IT manager through better management capabilities and improved online support. The company also says that it has expanded reporting for improved recoverability and that the system now delivers unique internal log management.
