The Health Ministry on Sunday confirmed the swine flu epidemic has claimed its second victim in the UAE.
The ministry said the victim was a 30-year-old pregnant Pakistani female. The woman was operated on and gave birth to a healthy child.
Meanwhile, Bahrain on Sunday reported its first swine flu death - the victim there described as in her 30’s and from South East Asia, KUNA reported.
Health department official, Mohammed Ameen Awadhi, speaking from the country's Salmaniya Medical Complex, said the woman had recently visited the accident and emergency department, complaining of symptoms including fever, sore throat and headache. She was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit.
It emerged that the woman had underlying health issues, although it was not determined whether she contracted the virus abroad or in Bahrain.
Bahrain has reported 200 swine flu infections so far, with most patients having fully recovered. ''A few people'' are described as still receiving medical treatment.
Elsewhere, Syria’s Health Ministry reported on Sunday the second swine flu-related fatality in that country.
In a statement the ministry said the deceased, a 59-year-old Palestinian female, had suffered from a variety of ailments, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, fluid retention and breast cancer.
To date the ministry there has reported 26 swine flu cases, 24 of which have been treated.

COMPETENT HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE STATED THAT THE MASKS SOLD HAVE NO VALUE IN STOPPING H1N1.

Please distribute the masks to all childrens and old age persons
freely so that others dont suffer. alternatively send the officials
to all residents in the uae to distribute. it might cost to the government but this is less compare when swine flu becomes more in uae. I suggest government should insist to wear swine flu mouth mask. at least it will not spread as easily.

Why is it that this type of news does not appear on one of the leading newspaper in the country? What's holding on to some of the media here? Trying to hide the problem will cause more harm. Good that AB is here. Keep it up!
