Oman reports 10th swine flu related death

Oman has recorded its 10th fatality related to the swine flu outbreak.

The H1N1 management and follow-up committee announced the death of a 54-year-old Omani male.

The patient was admitted at the health institution with pneumonitis, diabetes and chronic hepatic diseases.

Oman's Health Ministry has urged residents who have chronic diseases and pregnant women to immediately contact the nearest health institution in case of symptoms of swine flu.

Oman, where the latest statistics show 763 swine flu infections, has decided to postpone from August 29 to September 26 the start of the new academic year in all public schools in an effort to combat the spread of the disease.

All countries in the Gulf region have been hit by swine flu related fatalities, after Bahrain registered its first death earlier this week.

Saudi Arabia has reported the most H1N1 related deaths in the region and hotel operators fear they will lose hundred of millions of dollars as people are put off from attending the annual hajj due to the threat of swine flu.
