Air India has set up a panel to investigate a fire in an engine of one if its Boeing 747 aircraft while the Saudi-bound plane was on the runway preparing for take off.
The panel will investigate the “cause of fire and fix accountability,” the state-owned carrier said in an e-mailed statement to news wire Bloomberg.
The plane was on its way to Riyadh and was carrying 213 passengers and 16 crew members when the engine caught fire resulting in an evacuation, Manish Kalghatgi, a spokesman for the Mumbai airport said on September 4.
“Air India cabin crew performed admirably well under the circumstances” and the aircraft was in regular use, according to the statement.
