Times are changing at Dubai Logistics City

Number of changes have taken place at Dubai Logistics City (DLC) since the resignation of Michael Proffitt as chief executive officer last year. For starters, Abdullah Al Qurashi was drafted to overlook the multi-billion dollar project, which is being constructed in close proximity to the forthcoming Al Maktoum International Airport. In addition, industry players such as Aramex, Panalpina and Kuehne + Nagel have progressed with the construction of their warehouse facilities, while the family-owned enterprise RSA Logistics became the first tenant to commence operations.

However, despite a healthy flow of activities in recent months, it seems the management merry-go-round will continue this year. According to sources, Abdullah Al Qurashi is “no longer working at Dubai Logistics City” and a replacement has not been confirmed. Although detailed information on his exit is still being awaited by Logistics Middle East, a management restructure is apparently one of the options being considered.

So, with the project entering one of its most crucial stages, will this latest development have a negative impact on progress? On the contrary, senior representatives from Dubai Logistics City recently hosted a site visit for members of the Supply Chain and Logistics Group (SCLG), with companies such as FedEx, DPD International, Maersk Logistics, Al-Futtaim Retail and Arshiya International taking part. In addition, APL Logistics has opened its ‘flow centre’ operations at the existing RSA Logistics warehouse.

To gauge the market response, we conducted a recent survey with readers of ArabianSupplyChain.com which found that 76% of respondents were still positive about the opening of Dubai Logistics City.
