Dubai Municipality in conjunction with Dubai Police arrested 309 illegal street vendors and beggars during August as part of its continued clampdown on law breakers.

Spot checks by municipality inspectors on streets and public areas across the city found 85 illegal street vendors, 180 beggars, 38 unlicenced car washers and six butchers and fish cleaners.

A total of 2,216 pirate DVDs and 174 pornographic films were seized in the raids, the authority said in a statement on Monday.

Some 599 counterfeit products, including clothes, perfumes, cameras and watches, were also confiscated, as well as 178 items of food, like boxes of fruit and vegetables.

The law breakers will be “handed over to the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department for deportation in coordination with Dubai Police,” the statement said.

The seized goods will be destroyed after legal action is taken against the violators, officials said.

punishing the small people

why do we always punishing the small people. In Dubai all are under some Locals sponsorship. make these locals accountable. Or remove local sponsorship and punish the guilty. Punishing and deporting the car cleaner does not solve the problem.

If they were really catching them , then i would not be seeing 100 of them near my shop all day in the old souq for last 10 years , they are all here in front of all the shops for so long , and i even know them by faces .
