The number of students who have contracted the H1N1 virus in schools across Jordan has hit 37 (20 male, 17 female) the Ministry of Education reported Saturday.
The ministry's Secretary General Fawaz Jaradat told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that 20 of the students had since left hospital after recovery, while the rest remained on medication – their condition described as stable.
Jaradat said those infected had contracted the virus at 25 private and 12 public schools, adding that 18 of them were under the age of 10.
Despite the upsurge in cases Jaradat added that going to school was still preferable to staying at home due to a public awareness campaign launched by the ministry on how to protect oneself against infection.
