Creativity counts

by CEO Middle East on Saturday, 19 September 2009
Aedas is the designer of the 47 stations of Dubai Metro. Above is the Mall of Emirates Station.

CEO Middle East looks into the projects that Aedas — the world’s second largest architectural company recognised for its unique approach to design — is undertaking across the Gulf.

Aedas creates the world-class architectural design solutions from their 40 offices around the globe. It provides international expertise with innate knowledge and understanding of local cultures. Aedas’ designers are committed to contribute and lead in the societies they design for and their global network provides consultancy services in architecture, interior design, masterplanning, landscape, urban design and building consultancy in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Its commitment and tenacity to improve the natural and built environment are reflected in their award-winning designs for all building types including transport, civic, education, health, commercial, residential, industrial buildings and integrated resorts.

World-class transport designer

Decades of experience in the design of rail, road, air and sea transport facilities supports Aedas’ position at the forefront of this growing sector. Aedas understands that effective transport design relies on proactive and critical analysis, sustainable solutions, and the capacity to integrate mixed-use retail and commercial spaces within multimodal rail, road and air interchanges. The practice’s ongoing work with new and existing clients reflects the success of Aedas’ approach.

Following the start of the recession in September 2008, Aedas rapidly re-focused their efforts towards infrastructure work and won significant rail projects in four continents. In Hong Kong, Aedas is designing an iconic terminus for the Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou Express Rail Link. The rail team in Singapore has just celebrated the launch of the Kim Chuan Depot — the world’s largest underground depot. The company is also set on the work for Jakarta Metro and Milan Line 4 and 5. Aedas expects to increase their global presence during the recession by securing infrastructure work in the UK, Australia, China, USA and the Middle East.

“We have built our expertise from the ground up,” explains David Roberts, CEO, Asia, referring to the company’s history of work in emerging geographical markets such as Indonesia, China and the Middle East.
