Bahrain's national carrier Gulf Air is to increase its free checked baggage allowance in all three classes.
The new baggage policy will enter into force from October 1 when Gulf Air First, Business and Economy baggage allowances will all increase by 10kg taking them to 50kg, 40kg and 30kg respectively.
The new allowance is 10kg more than the standard allowance provided by most airlines worldwide, Gulf Air said in a statement.
Gold and Silver members of Gulf Air's frequent flyer programme are also entitled to an additional baggage allowance of 15kg for silver members and 20kg for gold card members.
Willy Boulter, Gulf Air chief commercial officer, said: "Our decision to increase the allowance is in direct response to feedback from our customers who are looking for greater flexibility in the amount of free-checked luggage they can carry when flying.
"Our priority is to guarantee our customers excellence in service and value for money when travelling with us. Our new baggage allowance is an excellent example of this."
The Airline's new baggage allowance policy will apply to all Gulf Air operated flights across its entire network of more than 42 destinations in 26 countries.

Ok, Gulfair, so you magically increase your allowance by at least 10kgs for each passenger. That amounts to an increase of over 1000kg extra weight each aircraft carries for just one of your A320s. Does this mean you'll carry less fuel for each flight or less cargo or what? What's the safety implications of this policy when even now, too many pax carry way more than 7kgs in the overhead lockers. Don't respond to "customer feedback" if it has an impact on flight safety or at least explain how you plan to mitigate the effect of heavier loads.
