MORE FLIGHTS: Ukraine International Airlines is to launch Odessa to Dubai flights in December.

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) on Tuesday announced plans to increase its number of flights from the Eastern European country to the UAE.

“Dubai has always been a destination of interest for Eastern Europeans, while Ukraine has much to offer tourists from the Middle East,” said Wajahat Kazi, sales and station manager for Khalid Al-Nasrallah Tourism, general sales agent for UIA.

Kazi confirmed that two direct flights a week would be launched from December onwards from Odessa to Dubai, with an extra weekly flight from Kiev to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai to start before the end of the year, Hotelier Middle East reported.

“We are also looking at plans for an extra flight to the Ukraine from Abu Dhabi to Kiev — we are planning to maybe start this up from November onwards,” he told the website.

Kazi said that the company had received many requests from Ukrainians in regards to visiting the UAE, while many passengers continue to use Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports as a stop off option on the way to destinations in the Far East.

UIA recently expanded its fleet following the delivery of its second new passenger airplane, a Boeing 737-800, with two more of the same model scheduled for delivery in early 2010 for use on the routes.

The carrier on Monday officially inaugurated a new direct service from the Ukrainian capital Kiev to Abu Dhabi.
