Abu Dhabi’s new hotel rating system was launched on Tuesday with Emirates Palace the first hotel to put up its new five star plaque.
All hotels been given a star rating of one to five depending on the facilities and service, with five being the best, and hotel apartments graded as standard, superior or deluxe, the news agency WAM reported.
Some 110 hotels and hotel apartments now have the new signage, which looks different to the traditional star ratings, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority's (ADTA) said.
"It's all about standing out in a manner consistent with Abu Dhabi's highly respectful style," said Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, ADTA chairman.
"This unique, sustainable classification scheme has been produced in close collaboration with the private sector and demonstrates how, together, stakeholders can deliver destination integrity to our final arbitrators - the travelling public," he said.
ADTA director of tourism standards, Nasser Al Reyami, said the system had been well received by the tourism industry.
"The international travel trade has welcomed it as a major stride forward in delivering destination confidence," he said.
