A nine month-old Kuwaiti baby suffering from a heart infection has died after becoming infected with swine flu, officials said on Wednesday.
Kuwait Health Ministry said the H1N1 virus death toll in the country now stood at eight people.
According to the news agency Kuna, the baby had been taken to a number of hospitals before being admitted on Tuesday in a critical condition. He was put into intensive care and given antiviral drugs but was too weak to fight the disease, the agency said.
Officials said children under five, pregnant women and people suffering from diabetes, asthma and a weak immune system were more susceptible to the swine flu virus.
They added, however, that 99 percent of patients with the virus made a full recovery.
