The 1,000th shop has opened for business at Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping centre, officials have announced.
Mall chiefs also said that footfall during the Eid holidays set new records with more than one million shoppers visiting the complex. They did not give figures for sales.
Sweet shop Candylicious became the 1,000th retail unit to open in the mall, which will host 1,200 shops when full. The Dubai Mall opened with just 600 stores last November.
Nasser Rafi, CEO, Emaar Malls Group, described the opening of the 1,000th outlet as a landmark achievement boosting retail and tourism for Dubai.
“The Dubai Mall is changing the retail landscape globally with a record number of stores – 1,000, now open under a single roof. The retail sector is one of the key pillars of Dubai’s economy.”
He added: “Over the week of Eid holidays alone The Dubai Mall welcomed over 1 million visitors, a testament that The Dubai Mall is the city’s prime leisure and entertainment destination of choice for residents and tourists.”
Other new store openings in recent weeks include luxury fashion retailers Oscar De La Renta and Dior, clothing and accessories stores Aeropostale, Un 1 Deux 2 Trois 3, Shoemart and Etam Lingerie and children’s fashion store Guess Kids.

I am really not sure why anyone would want to buy goods from this or any other mall in Dubai for that matter. I recently wanted to buy a camera; cost in a shop in Dubai Mall Dh1800, cost delivered from the US Dh1100. Fools and their money are easily parted I suppose, though probably less easily than in the past. I am quite sure that most of these visitors are window shoppers only.

It's very simple JC. There are electronic sensors on every entrance and exit which automatically count the number of people passing through. Total (In + Out) divided by 2 = No. of visitors.

I'd love to know how they calculated how many visitors Dubai Mall had during Eid?
