Telecom giant Motorola has signed a three year deal with Zain Iraq to provide operator services.
Under the terms of the contract, Motorola will improve Zain Iraq’s network performance, and run the firm’s technical support team.
“This level of network management and technical expertise will enable Zain Iraq to focus on building a better network for its customers, whilst improving its operating margin and increasing overall productivity,” Zain Iraq said in a statement on Sunday.
According to Zain Iraq’s latest figures from December 2008, the firm has 9.68 million customers in the country. The firm has worked with Motorola in the past, when the US firm integrated the Zain Iraq and Orascom networks last year when the two firms merged.
"We have taken this step due to our enduring faith and trust in the business we have built with Motorola, and the enormous potential of Iraq's telecommunications industry,” said Ali Al Dahwi, chief executive officer, Zain Iraq.
Zain and Motorola also have existing contracts in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Jordan for several different technologies and service functions.
