Education chiefs in Qatar have issued a warning to a number of schools and kindergartens to step up their swine flu preventative measures or face closure.
The Supreme Education Council (SEC) said that if they did not comply with H1N1 prevention-related directives, they would be shut.
The Council has given managers of these schools 24 hours to take corrective measures, The Peninsula reported on Sunday.
The lack of measures were spotted when SEC officials visited during routine inspections to check compliance with the directives, the paper added.
Qatar began its nationwide flu immunisation drive for school children last week with pupils at independent schools the first to receive the vaccine.
Almost all consent forms sent to parents with children at independent schools across the country have returned them, Dr Ayman Diab, head of the outbreak and surveillance unit of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), said.
Meanwhile, Omani health officials confirmed a 23rd person has died from swine flu in the country.
The National Committee for the Management and Follow-up of H1N1 influenza said in a statement the total number of confirmed cases had reached 2,134.
